Drumming course information

I use Facebook and various email groups to stay in contact with my drumming students, share information and network. You can find me on facebook at mark william barfoot. My main email address is mark.djembe.barfoot@gmail.com

I have a profile at http://www.drummedup.org/drummed-up-teachers.html

I currently teach weekly classes for the Workers Education Association. I am coming to the end of term and classes will resume in September.

These are structured classes learning West African rhythms using bass drums and djembes. There might be some singing too. I will also explain the history and stories behind the rhythms and give some cultural background. The rhythms come from the Hamana region of Guinea as taught by Nansady Keita, from Wassalon region of Guinea as taught by Iya Sako and Malian rhythms taught to me by Hans Sutton.

Drummed Up – The group will resume meeting in the Autumn after our annual Great North Run performance in September – details to follow.  http://www.drummedup.org/drum-with-drummed-up.html

Durham Drumming Class – The Durham class had to stop because sadly it was not sustainable.

West African Drumming – Monday 7-9pm Trinity Centre Jackson St Gateshead. Final class of term on Monday 17th July and new course will resume in September

Beginners West African drumming classes – I would like to run either some day workshops or weekly courses to give a firm foundation for new players so they can join one of my other regular classes with some confidence and have the basics under their belt. Details to be announced

I also teach a monthly all-day class on Teeside at Chartons Community Centre TS12 3DB. The group performs under the name Talking Drums and welcomes players to their practice sessions between my monthly taught days

Birthday Parties

I run drumming workshops for children’s birthday parties but am happy to run events for adults, children, families and community groups too

I have recently run a 30th birthday party for a family and their guests. Working with a fellow musician and dancer we can offer a dynamic and memorable time with both drumming and dance and can work to your requirments. Please do get in touch
