New Courses underway

Just entering week 3 of my current WEA (Workers Education Association) term of classes. We have been given an additional week for each course this term – 11 weeks for Drummed Up and Byker (2 hours) and 9 weeks (2.5 hours) in Durham. Still time to sign up – but please contact me asap if you want to come along so I can ensure I bring enough drums.

Drummed Up (Floor 6 CU house, Pilgrim Street, Newcastle)

We are looking at a new rhythm called Seeba. It was taught by Nansady at a workshop held in Ovingham (Northumberland) in June 2013. It includes a song which we tried for the first time last night!! Went well.

We have a gig on 5th October as part of World Mental Health Day Monument meet 9.30am for 10am start.

We have other gigs planned and there will be rehearsal after the WEA class has finished from 8.30-9.30pm

Durham (Waddington St United Reformed Church, Durham)

We are looking at a new rhythm Denabeng dunun. Again taught by Nansady at the Ovingham workshop. We all play bass drums as well as djembe during the session.

Byker (Byker Community Centre, Headlam St, Newcastle)

We began with Balakulanjan and have just introduced Yankadi. We all play both bass drums and djembe during the session.
